Survey Ideas

I would like to see us find out what type of meeting place they would like to go to. Restuarant vs. WDM Learning Resource Center and if their employers pay the cost of the meeting.

Good ideas, Linda. I'd like to gather data about how members value their STC memberships--sort of a "what does STC do for me" idea. Admittedly difficult to measure, I think this notion is central to figuring out how we can shape our chapter in the near and long term.

Along similar lines, I think we need assess our meetings with an eye toward making them more attractive to more members--or not, if meetings aren't important to members. Networking seems to be a key idea, but I don't think members view our meetings as worthy networking opportunities.

I'd also like to get a local take on the new membership structure and the various publishing options.

This is just off the top of my head and probably not well articulated, but this is a brainstorming tool, right?

Have a safe and happy 4th of July!

If possible, I wouldn't mind getting just one question about preference for delivery of a newsletter (e-mail, print, or online). I am thinking about incorporating all three tools, but I want to wage if one is highly preferred over the other. If I could get that little bit of feedback, I don't think I would require an entire survey later on down the road. I can just use the newsletter to ask my questions (which may also provide a place to ask some of the other questions we have if we don't want to bombard everyone with a formal survey. Perhaps a couple of feedback questions in the newsletter would be a way to get some more info from members).

I am starting to see some topics for sections of the survey forming:

  • Member Info (what is your job title, what are your job responsibilities, where do you work, who pays for your membership, what they find valuable about the organization)
  • Meeting Preferences (location, topics)
  • Communication Preferences (e-mail, discussion boards, print, online)

I'd like some questions geared towards guaging interest in new meeting formats (that would be in addition to our regular meetings) such as Software Saturday. I'd like to find out if people would be willing to pay for them, what types of software they'd be interested in learning, and also if we have any expert members who would volunteer to teach on a Software Saturday.

That's my thought for now. Thanks!

All good thoughts!

I would also like to know the following demographic information:
Why did you join STC Central Iowa?
What are your current job responsiblities?
What is your job title?
Are you an exempt or non-exempt employee within your organization?
What type of organization do you work for?
What skills or knowledge would you be willing to share with others in STC?

I would also like to know the following about our meeting structure:
Do you prefer evening or afternoon meetings?
What days of the week do you prefer to meet?
What type of establishment do you prefer to meet at?
Do you commute to attend meetings? If yes, where do you commute from? Would you be willing teleconference or Web conference?

I am probably repeating comments others have already shared, but wanted to ensure I put it all in a list. I also think we should not ask as many questions as I have listed above at one time, which might be overwhelming, so these are mainly just a brain dump of questions I have had on my mind.

It appears from everyone's comments so far that we are all on the same thought process with the feedback we would like to gather. Good work everyone!
